We are currently experiencing a modern resurgence of hemp and its associated cannabidiol (CBD) products. While this plant may seem new, it’s actually one of the world’s oldest and first agricultural crops. Hemp is an extremely versatile crop and has been used for thousands of years for products like clothing, fuel, paper, rope, food, and human and animal wellness. However, a series of laws throughout the 20th century brought the burgeoning industry to a halt. Recent legislature in the 2014 and 2018 United States Farm Bills has made it possible again for growers and researchers alike to begin hemp production. This video is a very brief history of this historical crop and what lead to its modern resurgence.
